INCREASE IN THE PRICE OF GOLD AND SILVER
The midterm elections are not the reason why gold and other rare metals are selling at their best levels in more than a month.

When individuals are concerned about inflation as well as systemic dangers, gold usually performs well. In an effort to increase their chances of making a profit, investors are becoming more risk-averse and investing their money in gold. Experts worry that the Fed will continue raising rates in 2016, and there is talk that it may even have to use negative interest rates.

With negative yields on more than $7 trillion in global debt, more than 20% of the world's GDP is currently functioning in a negative interest rate environment. By paying the bank to retain their money or the government to invest in their bonds, customers are paying to hold their money while interest rates are negative.

The causes for the increase in gold prices are as follows:
  • When people feel uneasy with the government or the monetary sector, gold prices soar.
  • In times of political or economic unrest, gold is seen as a haven.
  • A safeguard against price increases and currency depreciation is gold.
  • Investors purchase gold when they anticipate a drop in the currency's value.
  • Gold gains as the currency declines.
  • When central banks have a deficit, investors purchase physical assets like gold to safeguard their money.
  • Gold prices rise when interest rates fall because holding gold has a lower opportunity cost than holding other assets.
Gold is highly prized not just for use in investments and jewelry making, but also for usage in the production of several electrical and medical products.

Prices for gold and silver have begun to diverge, with silver being the greater underperformer. More than gold, silver prices have been declining. Divergence is the term for this. The disparity in price movement between gold and silver has a few causes. One is the gold/silver ratio, a technique used by merchants to compare the worth of two metals. The demand for and uses for the metals themselves might be a more basic cause of the disparity.
