It was manufactured by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, owned by NASA, and managed by the California Institute of Technology. It was launched from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 41 with the help of a Titan IIIE rocket; the spacecraft weighed 721.9 kg at launch time.
